Wow, crazy.
Lots of the individual elements are great, but the movies jumps between wildly different tones so rapidly that it never establishes a mode except, perhaps, disorientation.
One of the brief commentaries on Criterion mentioned that the movie's point of view is that of the adolescent emotional roller coaster.
