Mon Mar 1 06:00:01 EST 2021 ======================================== Slept from eleven-thirty to seven. Woke briefly around four. Much colder. Cloudy early in the morning, then partly cloudy with isolated snow showers in the late morning and afternoon. Highs in the lower 30s. Northwest winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts to around 35 mph. Chance of snow 20 percent. Work ---------------------------------------- - How will we replace the drive in a FreeBSD RAID? Done. - Nom DNS update script Some. - Review credit card statements No. - Order LT cameras No. ``` [2.4.5-RELEASE][root@fergus.hartmantyner.com]/root: pfSsh.php playback svc restart openvpn server 2 ``` What we'll at least need to do to replace the failing Fergus disk: 1. Power off Fergus. 2. Replace the old, bad drive with the new one. 3. Power on Fergus. Once it boots, the array will be in a degraded state. 4. Run `gmirror forget pfSenseMirror` to make FreeBSD forget about the old, disconnected drive. 5. Find the device name of the new disk with `dmesg | grep 'ada[0-9]'`. 6. Clear any GPT metadata off the new disk with `gpart destroy -F ada8`. 7. Clear any RAID metadata off the new disk with `gmirror clear ada8`. (Probably not strictly necessary for a new drive, but whatever.) 8. Run `gmirror insert pfSenseMirror ada8` to add the new disk to the array. 9. The rebuild may begin automatically now, which should be visible with `gmirror status`. If pfSense for some insane reason has turned off the auto-rebuild flag, we'll have to manually run `gmirror rebuild pfSenseMirror ada8`. Ten minutes on the exercise bike at lunch. We didn’t even have any of them in my house — playing with them was a rare treat when visiting friends’ and relatives’ houses. Thank you Ali Spagnola for fulfilling a childhood dream. > I've invented dubstop.
