My (probably not at all novel) idea to address income inequality:
- Call the "Annual Minimum Wage" the hourly minimum * 40 * 52.
- Maximum individual annual income is capped at a hundred * AMW, with excess taxed at 100%. If minimum wage is $15/hr, that caps maximum annual income at about $3,000,000.
- Cap the maximum inheritable estate value at a thousand * AMW, with excess taxed 100%. If minimum wage is $15/hr, that caps maximum inheritable estate at about $30,000,000.
- Individuals are not taxed on annual income up to twice the AMW.
- Enforce the maximum caps strictly, and let legislators and lobbyists set the minimum wage at whatever they want.
