========================================
Slept from ten-thirty to seven.
Woke briefly around five.
Mostly sunny.
Highs in the mid 50s.
Southwest winds up to 10 mph.
Work
----------------------------------------
Good, grief, Julie is still physically going to the office.
At least Bob et al. are finally at home today.
UPDATE: nope, it look like Bob and Mike went to the office too.
- Finish Ansible inventory by DHCP
No.
- Review Newegg invoices online
Some.
- Send email warning of coronavirus-related scams
Done.
Twenty-five-minute walk at lunch.
Cheerfully warm and sunny.
Saw a morning dove, several robins and starlings.
Lots of people out walking.
Duplicating our paper PO approval process electronically is a slow pain.
1. Print PO and packing slips as PDF's.
2. Combine PDF's into one PDF.
3. Open combined PDF in Gimp.
4. Sign with the pencil tool.
5. Layer → Stack → Reverse Layer Order
6. File → Export As: .mng (an animated PNG)
7. Convert the MNG to PDF.
8. Somehow send now huge PDF to AP (without bulking out our email).
(Fuck it. Whatever. This process is arduous enough. Email it is.)

Went out on my balcony at six.
Saw only the local cat lady about her cat lady business.
Oh, well, nice to soak in the evening sun for a few minutes.
D&D campaign idea: a great wall.
Like China's Great Wall.
On one side: slightly civilized (but varying) lands suitable for low to mid-level PC's.
On the other side: a roiling chaotic mess suitable for mid to high-level PC's.
The wall itself acts as a long dungeon.
There would be forts periodically along the wall — taller, deeper dungeons.
Or flip it a little — the PC's are on the poor, undeveloped side of the wall.
The other side holds a Lawful Evil empire.

> Earlier in the day, four Republican senators — Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott of South Carolina, Ben Sasse of Nebraska and Rick Scott of Florida — threatened to oppose the chamber’s push to pass the rescue package through fast-track procedures. They argued a proposal to add $600 per week to unemployment insurance for up to four months, a core provision of the near-final legislation, could encourage companies to lay off workers and Americans to stay unemployed, urging a vote to cap the aid.
>
> Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., then said he would delay the bill if his GOP colleagues did not drop their opposition, calling it an “outrage” to prevent Americans from getting emergency unemployment insurance. In a statement, he said he is “prepared to put a hold on this bill” to lobby for tighter restrictions on companies receiving aid from a taxpayer pool of $500 billion.

> Aspects of America’s identity may need rethinking after COVID-19. Many of the country’s values have seemed to work against it during the pandemic. Its individualism, exceptionalism, and tendency to equate doing whatever you want with an act of resistance meant that when it came time to save lives and stay indoors, some people flocked to bars and clubs. Having internalized years of anti-terrorism messaging following 9/11, Americans resolved to not live in fear. But SARS-CoV-2 has no interest in their terror, only their cells.
> Veterans of past epidemics have long warned that American society is trapped in a cycle of panic and neglect. After every crisis—anthrax, SARS, flu, Ebola—attention is paid and investments are made. But after short periods of peacetime, memories fade and budgets dwindle. This trend transcends red and blue administrations. When a new normal sets in, the abnormal once again becomes unimaginable. But there is reason to think that COVID-19 might be a disaster that leads to more radical and lasting change.
