Bored. Signed back up for Netflix. Damn it; I forgot about the annoying autoplay previews. Wow, and the web interface is not actively hostile to use — interface elements change and slide out from under your pointer. Thirty-minute walk in the afternoon. Dim atmosphere, but not excessively cold. Confirmed noon on Christmas with Mom (and that Mills Pharmacy and Quarton Market switched places — odd). Dropped by the office briefly to say hello and pick up a couple packages. Car dealership convince me the battery had degraded enough to possibly fail at some point this winter. There goes $180. Started reading The Mothman Prophecies while I waited at the dealership. Keel is a surprisingly competent writer. Wrote a little command-line dice rolling utility (which I've probably done before, more than once). ssh://paulgorman.org/~/repo/dnd/software/roll Despite how painful the interface makes browsing and finding content, the actual Netflix viewing experience is good, particularly the "skip into" feature. Planned to start watching season two of Mindhunter, but rewatched a few season one episodes first. What a great show — good writing, great performances, strong sense of setting! One of the show's more effective bits of writing and directing is letting the actors express important things without dialog; sometimes two characters exchange glances, sometimes we just see reactions bubbling to the surface (the elevator shot after they win grant money), and other times the camera simply lingers to let the viewer intuit what the character's thinking based on context and/or a topical discussion from an earlier scene.
