Tue Dec 17 06:00:01 EST 2019 ======================================== Slept from midnight to nine. Partly sunny until late afternoon then clearing. Highs in the lower 30s. Northwest winds 5 to 10 mph. To do: - laundry Done. - play with megadungeon Vacuumed, watered plants, inked dice. Finally decided to treat myself to a new laptop. Nothing crazy — a Macbook Air. My last laptop purchase was January 2012, almost eight years ago. That last laptop was also a Macbook Air, which I'd probably still be happily using if the battery hadn't suddenly stopped holding any charge a few months ago. Twenty-minute walk in the afternoon. Mostly sunny and not too cold. What's the recommended pack manager for macOS these days? MacPort is maybe more sound, and certainly more conservative. Homebrew may have slightly newer packages, but makes some controversial design decisions. Are MacPorts versions stale? Well, their current neovim and tmux are newer than Debian stable's, so that probably new enough for me. MacPorts for me, I guess. 728 Eesh, I'm not sure of the Macbook Air keyboard. Shockingly little key travel (and I like relatively short key travel!). Installed: Firefox, Xcode (holy slow install!), Go, Signal, Macports, tmux, neovim, pandoc. The keyboard could have more key travel, but overall the Air is a nice little machine. Chatted with Ed and Jay on Signal for a while. Servings: grains 8/6, fruit 2/4, vegetables 3/4, dairy 7/2, meat 3/3, nuts 1/0.5 Lunch: pineapple, cucumber, beans and rice, coffee Afternoon snack: banana, celery Dinner: pizza 126/79 -22
