Sat Nov 23 06:00:01 EST 2019 ======================================== Slept from eleven to seven. Woke once in the night. Earplugs helped me sleep better at the hotel than I slept last year. Sunny in the morning then becoming partly sunny. Highs in the lower 40s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph. Morning session: Mutant Crawl Classics. OK session. The DCC system is a good match with the post-apocalyptic mutant mayhem genre. Afternoon session: Harlem Unbound. The lady who ran the game — Ariel Celeste — told a good story, and shared a tremendous amount of the historical context of the game scenario (and the Harlem Renaissance in general). - This was a fun and educational experience. - Player choice was very minimal, making it a bit of a failure as a game session. - The idea of Lovecraft intersecting with the Harlem Renaissance has a lot of meat, but I'm not convinced Harlem Unbound (or the Gumshoe system?) does enough to exploit it. This adventure would be a short story I'd enjoy reading. Maybe it was just too long for a con session? A top three of the weekend, despite my qualms about limited player choice. Evening session: was scheduled for Boot Hills, but the referee didn't show. Joined a D&D 2e game. Phillip McGee ran Bill Web's MCMLXXV. A good DM, despite his affinity for 2e. Fun session — top three of the weekend. One of the guys playing in the session runs a monthly public game at Dragonmead Brewery. (The guy who blogs at https://gamersandgrognards.blogspot.com/, I think.) Might be worth checking out. Servings: grains 5/6, fruit 3/4, vegetables 4/4, dairy 2/2, meat 3/3, nuts 1/0.5 Breakfast: banana, orange, cucumber, tomato, pita, peanutbutter Lunch: pulled pork sandwich, mac and cheese, apple Dinner: (a sub-mediocre buffet including:) mashed potatoes, salad, pork, pasta
