Slept from eleven to seven.
High of forty-three and mostly cloudy today.
Goals:
- Clean apartment (hosting D&D tomorrow)
Done.
- Laundry
Done.
Watered plants, cleaned bathroom, vacuumed, cleaned kitchen, dusted.
Picked up a mixed six-pack at Whole Foods yesterday, on my way back from the dealership:
- New Holland Brewing, Hoptronix. I like the Space Invaders can. Very clean flavor — all citrus with little malt. Not one-note, but maybe two-or-three-note. Pleasant. 9% alcohol!
- North Coast Brewing Co., Acme IPA. Almost an opposite of the Hoptronix — mainly malty with an undertone of hops. Also pleasant, but in a more sweet than bitter way. A nice contrast, representing a big chunk of the IPA spectrum.
- Arcadia Brewing Company, Loch Down Scotch Ale. This is different. Strongly chocolaty-caramel-coffee-medicinal. Not an IPA, I guess. I don't hate it. This is the sort of thing I would almost expect from the old Bell's. Never eaten one, but "Scotch egg" keeps running through my mind.
- Saugatuck Brewing Co., Singapore IPA. Little head — "intensely aromatic" is a lie. It's not bad, but it tastes … citrusy with the sharp edges filed off. The typical IPA flavor profile of bitter hops and a hint of malt comes only in a short-lived aftertaste. Like Oberon mixed with an IPA. It's not a bad beer, but the weakest of the four so far, although it brings slightly more complexity than the pure-flavored Hoptronix. … But it's growing on me. It's subtle.
- Dark Horse Brewing Co., Crooked Tree IPA. Interesting. Citrus and savory, like grapefruit and cinnamon? Not much head and not much aftertaste, but it's nice. Not very complex, but easy to drink. Not a "heavy" IPA.
- Short's Brewery, Huma Lupa Licious. Leaning hard into the bitter, piney end of hops, this has little malt and almost no citrus notes. But it's not terrible, if you're in the mood for piney hops.
None of these were bad beers.
They were all quite different.
The Crooked Tree might be the best all-around beer of the bunch, bu the Hoptronix is notable for its purity.

Watched episodes of Happy! on Netflix.
Eh. I mean, it takes the premise and runs with it.
"Jame Joyce called cheese the corpse of milk."
"I never listen to folk music."
A writer feels really clever about that exchange.
Also, [chipmunk blowjob] great reference to Kubricks The Shining.
Short walk in the afternoon.
Cloudy and warm.
Saw a "V" of Canada geese.
What I first realized a year or so ago but has been reinforced every time I drink: I'm a little lonely.
Managed to drink six beers over seven hours without getting really drunks.
