Slept from ten to six-something. Woke briefly around two-thirty.
High of sixty-two today. Thunderstorms.

> It is very important for a designer to recognize all the parts of a design that are not easy wins, that is, there is no proportionality between the effort and the advantages. A project that is executed in order to maximize the output, is going to focus exactly on the aspects that matter and that can be implemented in a reasonable amount of time. For example when designing Disque, a message broker, at some point I realized that by providing just best-effort ordering for the messages, all the other aspects of the project could be substantially improved: availability, query language and clients interaction, simplicity and performances.

Did some shopping yesterday.
Criterion had a sale; I bought:
- House
- I Married a Witch
- Woman in the Dunes
- I Know Where I’m Going!
- Sullivan’s Travels
- High and Low
- The Sword of Doom
Also ordered a new power supply for my firewall.
The fan in its current power supply has started making a noise.
Saw a couple of crows flying during my drive in to the office.
Work:
- Finish rsync job setup (generate ssh keys, test, shell script, cron job)
Done.
Ask HN: Why isn't VOIP better?

Twenty-five minute walk at lunch.
Rainy and windy, but warm.
Saw a few Canada geese.
Gah, when did this change? `systemctl` should default to `--no-pager`!
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=713567
In SYSTEMCTL(1):
> $SYSTEMD_PAGER Pager to use when --no-pager is not given; overrides $PAGER. If neither $SYSTEMD_PAGER nor $PAGER are set, a set of well-known pager implementations are tried in turn, including less(1) and more(1), until one is found. If no pager implementation is discovered no pager is invoked. Setting this environment variable to an empty string or the value "cat" is equivalent to passing --no-pager.
Added to `.bashrc` and `.zshrc`:
export SYSTEMD_PAGER=cat
Home:
- Make a copy of MP3's for Karina
Done.
- Groceries (yogurt, coffee, half-and-half)
Done.
Read another couple chapters of Musketeers. Really enjoying it.
Breakfast: carrots, spinach, cheese, almonds, coffee
Lunch: nuts
Dinner: pita, hummus, tabbouleh, olives, artichoke hearts, cheese
