Sat Feb 18 08:12:57 EST 2017 Slept from one to seven. Sunny and a high of sixty-four today. Wow. - Be sure to get outside for a walk Done. - Golang study Done. How did I not know about logger? `logger` logs messages to syslog. See logger(1) and syslog(3). $ logger "This is a test of the logger command." $ logger -p local7.info "Logger can Facility to mark the message source and a Level to mark the message severity." I'd also forgotten about `look` (`-f` ignores case). $ look pseudo pseudo pseudonym pseudonym's pseudonyms $ look pseudo websters1913-29765-8.txt Pseudoneuroptera. PSEUDO- pseudo-martyr, pseudo-philosopher. Also used adjectively. [...snip...] pseudopodia, by means of which they move about and take their food. Pseudobranchus. They have anterior legs only, are eel-like in form, pseudoneuropterous insects of the genus Termes. These insects are Vacuumed, watered plants, tidied up a bit. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=13674101 I can relate to this comment: > This is related to the Curse of the Gifted. When I was a kid, I could grasp concepts easily and I understood maths very quickly so I didn't really bother doing things like homework or actually studying. > I then went to a decent university (a French Grande Ecole) and for the first year, I was still doing okish but I went from being a student who always had good results to doing average. Then, the second year came, and just understanding the concepts without cultivating fluency by practicing wasn't enough anymore and I failed hard. I hadn't learned how to learn and while I understood the concepts and could easily follow when the teacher solved a problem together with us, I had difficulties doing it on my own. I worked doing exercises and was able to pass but time and time again in my professional life, I've had the same issue where I tend to rely too much on my intuitive understanding until it fails. > I'm not sure how to help kids not to go down this path. As a kid, I would avoid any rote memorization and would probably not do any non graded exercise since I knew that I understood (and also since as a geek wanting to fit in, I tried to be more accepted by my peers by purposefully not doing my homework). In the end, I think the key is play and giving maybe challenging exercises that forces the kid to use his newly found understanding would be a way to get them used to not just rely on their intuition understanding. Watched the first couple of episodes of The Kettering Incident. Promising. A bit Twin Peaks-ish. Put in an appearance at Sherri van A.'s visitation at Hunter's Ridge this afternoon. Lots of work people there. Took a couple of suits to the dry cleaner. They'll be ready Wednesday. Bought gas. Half hour walk. Beautiful and ridiculously warm. Lots of people out gardening. Saw a red-tailed hawk circling high in the sky, a dozen Canada geese in a "V", and a crow. Today set a new temperature record for Detroit. Warmest day since 1976. I talked to mom, and she remembers sunbathing on the back patio while heavily pregnant with me. Breakfast: left-over pizza, coffee Lunch: carrots, macaroni Dinner: pizza
