Slept from before eleven to around seven without waking.
Sunny. High of eighty-one.
Half moon high in the blue sky this morning.
Goals:
Work:
- Follow up on Hazel Park cable modem
Done.
- Request an Office 2016 quote from CDW
Done.
- Decide on responder exhaustion response for emergency system
Done.
I'm pretty much done with this, baring bug fixes.
Scott has started work on the front end.
Hmph. Updates of Sid this morning brought this news:
systemd (231-1) unstable; urgency=low
This version drops support for running /etc/rcS.d SysV init scripts.
Half hour walk at lunch. Nice. Not excessively warm. Saw half a dozen dragonflies. Heard some cicadas. While we often have one or sometimes two seagulls flying around here, today there were at least sixteen of them circling the office.
Home:
- Post a dungeon room to Twitter
No.
- SEMIBUG meeting tonight? Yes, Nick Holland on incremental rsync.
Done.
Tentatively agreed that I might at some point give a talk on OpenBSD IPSEC VPNs.
Suggested we have someone talk about DTrace on FreeBSD, which received general agreement.
- Read more about data structures
Not much.

"Stephen Dedalus shivered as if he had cold slimy water next his skin. That was mean of Wells to shoulder him into the square ditch because he would not swop his little snuffbox for Wells's seasoned hacking chestnut, the conqueror of forty."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conkers
"Conkers is a traditional children's game in Britain and Ireland played using the seeds of horse chestnut trees—the name 'conker' is also applied to the seed and to the tree itself. The game is played by two players, each with a conker threaded onto a piece of string: they take turns striking each other's conker until one breaks."

Hmm. This might be neat? An massively salable, multi-platform, multi-language rpc system from Google:

https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=12344995
"You want to call a method in another process, potentially on another machine. In order to do that you both need to agree on what the networking protocol looks like. gRPC uses HTTP/2 for the control and data channel and uses Protocol Buffers to describe the method call, its parameters and ultimately its return values. Since this is standardized across languages it doesn't matter if the caller is Python and the callee is Java, you can still make the method call."
Took a fifteen minute walk in the dark after I got home from SEMIBUG. Clearish night. Picked out the Big Dipper.
Breakfast: spinach, yogurt, coffee with half-and-half
Lunch: nuts
Dinner: Jimmy John's
