Mon Aug 8 08:03:52 EDT 2016 Slept from around eleven to seven. Woke briefly around 4:30. Sunny today. High of eighty-four. I've been reflecting on part I of portrait, which I re-read yesterday for the first time since high school. Things that stuck out: - hands - white - turf - sound effects (pock of the cricket balls) - (in)justice - how gender and class barely brush the surface of Stephen's consciousness - epistemology --- rationalism vs empiricism --- Stephen bumping against the limits of his rationalism It's also surprising how much I don't remember about the book. Little details are clear in my memory, but I don't even have a good recollection of the overall events and structure of the story. Goals: Work: - Review invoices Done. - Work on emergency maintenance call system Done. Fifteen minute walk at lunch. Loud cicadas. Home: - Check out Sam editor Done. Interesting, especially in its similarity to ed, but probably not something I'll use much. I also realized that ex is a direct descendant of ed, and played with it a bit. http://doc.cat-v.org/bell_labs/sam_lang_tutorial/ https://lobste.rs/s/5bknpo/updated_version_sam/comments/mdw3sz#c_mdw3sz https://utcc.utoronto.ca/~cks/space/blog/unix/SamWhyILikeIt - Work on minimal D&D rules Done.
