Sun Oct 18 06:45:09 EDT 2015 Went to bed early last night, slept OK, and woke up early. I cleaned the kitchen and bathroom before 6:30 AM. Watered the plants. Shaved. I've been trying out some new shaving products since I lost the beard. I like Burt's Bees shaving cream (which is mostly water and sunflower oil) and cetaphil daily facial moisturizer. High of 48 today, and partly sunny. Next week looks to have highs in the sixties. Goals - D&D 5e stuff Not much. - Clean out old car Cleaned out the trunk. Let go of everything except one condensed box of uncle Rob's D&D stuff. Still need to clean out the glovebox, under the seats, etc. Went back out in the afternoon, and moved the old car so I could part my new iA under the car port. Avoid the frost in the mornings. Saw a raptor in the big tree on the corner. Watched him fly onto a branch and rip the fur off some poor little unidentified critter he caught. Walked right under him, and watched him eat from about twenty-five feet below. I heard the tearing and snapping of bone and sinew as the hawk pulled the thing apart with its beak. An elderly lady walked by, and I pointed it out to her. Consulted Sibley, but still uncertain of identification. Medium to dark brown on top. White underside, throat, and tail. Some brown vertical streaks on belly. Some white vertical streaks on top of wings. Dark beak. Large and distinct white area near the eyes (eye stripe or supercilium). Some kind of hybrid, possibly, or a very light juvenile eastern red-tailed hawk. Took a couple of crappy cell phone pictures. (More brown streaks on belly than I remembered. Funny how observational memory diverges even a few minutes later.) Watched a few episodes of the witches season of American Horror. Not bad.
