Mon Jul 6 08:00:29 EDT 2015 Slept well. Woke up a little early. On time to work; I've been doing better lately with punctuality. It supposed to get near ninety today. Ugh. Wish the AC in my car worked. I managed a 20+ minute walk during lunch, despite the heat. I got some of the parts for my personal Raspberry Pi 2 project. Just waiting on the Pi itself, which should be here Wednesday. I plan to set up something OwnCloud-ish (like Dropbox but self-hosted), and get Dreamhost's dynamic DNS working. Wow. `cowsay` has a tongue and eye option. --- bava --- ~ $ cowsay -e '--' -T 'V ' foo _____ < foo > ----- \ ^__^ \ (--)\_______ (__)\ )\/\ V ||----w | || || Goals: Work: - Write performance reviews Done. - Remember to order power strips and test printers Done - Look into Hazel Park bonded T1 issue Done. Opened ticket with provider. - We're getting license expiration warning. Did I have Julie approve the invoice? Yes. It's sitting on Bob's desk. Home: - Assess annual goals Done. - Think about improving Linux man pages Thought about. I feel like I have some good ideas, but I'm not sure it's a project I want to take on. No, but I might want a private/personal set of man pages.... Looks like it's feasible to keep your own personal man pages. http://paulgorman.org/technical/linux-man-pages.txt - Read about Dreamhost's dynamic DNS http://wiki.dreamhost.com/Dynamic_DNS Do I even want to bother with dyn dns, or just email or post to web my IP every day? Questions: - Are there any good solutions to editing metadata in FLACs? Last time I checked the solutions were lacking. If not, how hard would it be to implement? - Since it's something like half way through the year, how am I doing on my annual goals? What were my goals anyhow? - Get better at drawing, and have more fun drawing Some progress. I did some exercises that have loosened up my old style. Contour line drawing, in particular. Still, I should draw more often to make real progress. - Lose weight, get in better shape Yes. I've been walking 20-40 minutes a day. I've lost some weight, and I feel in better shape. I've constrained my portion size a little, but I could probably try to cook more often rather than ordering out. Despite my gains, I'm concerned I'll backslide during winter. - Refresh my math skills Not too much progress here. I made a few tentative notes, and bought a couple of Dummies-style books, but haven't pursued it diligently enough. - Sharpen my programming skills. Refresh my knowledge of C, and actually use it for some projects. Some progress. I've done a fair bit of programming, although a lot of it's been JavaScript. I have clocked a few hours of C study and made notes, but I haven't done any real projects yet. - Keep a daily diary Yes, I've been surprisingly faithful about this one. - Start actually _playing_ RPG's more regularly Yes, although I got a little burnt out on the Stonehell campaign. I'd like to give G+ hangouts gaming a go too. I've also been good about following my work plan for the year. IT plans in the past have tended to get sidelined by the pressing needs of the day, but this year has seen some real progress. Looking back at previous diary entries, I had picked a long term goal of cleaning out my closets, cabinets, and basement. I haven't done much about that, but it's a good idea.
