Thu Oct 29 07:54:43 EDT 2015 Went to bed around ten, slept well, and woke up around seven. Cloudy, breezy, a chance of showers, and a high of forty-seven today. Goals: Work: Chaotic day. Spent the morning queuing videos for Mr. H, and chasing nonexistent (?) phone problems. Mildly fed up, I spent the afternoon trying out new window managers. Twenty-five minute walk at lunch. Wind of leaves blew bare each bow not stripped Home: - Wash dishes, vacuum - Check out ratpoison Done. http://www.nongnu.org/ratpoison/ Not for me. - Check out subtle wm Done. http://subtle.subforge.org/ Looks promising. I have become pretty attached to fvwm.... Tried subtle. Not a success. - Check out notion wm Done. http://notion.sourceforge.net/ Not terrible, but it will take a *lot* of customization to work for me. No, would take too much customization to make it useful, and even then it wouldn't be better than fvwm. Damn it, I wish wmii was still maintained. It has the best freakin' window object model. - Herbstluftwm? http://www.herbstluftwm.org/ Hmmm. Interesting. A lot like wmii. I like the config mechanism maybe even better than wmii. herbstluftwm might be the one (and it really rolls right off the tongue)! Yeah, herbstluftwm is way, way more comfortable for a wmii lover than anything else I've tried (including i3, which doesn't resemble the functionality of wmii no matter what they claim). Also: seasonal. herbstluftwm is my new window manager. Nice. I need to figure out how to add the load average to herbstluftwm's panel. cat /proc/loadavg | awk '{ print $1, $2, $3 }' Done and committed. I should check out ncmpcpp as a music player.
