Wed Jan 21 10:00:01 UTC 2026 ======================================== Slept from early to... I don't even know. Poor sleep but better than nothing. Third day of Oregon trip. Read more of The Outsider. Left Bend. Chris Dahl drove Dylan Dunne, Kayla Harriman, and me over the mountain pass in a Forest Service SUV to Central Point. Saw a bald eagle fly right in front of the SUV. Kayla recommends the Timber Wars podcast. Strange, pom-pom-like clumps growing on the bare deciduous trees is mistletoe, which is apparently parasitic (and invasive?). Went directly to Stone Nursery before even checking into our new hotel. Saw a raven in the fields at Stone Nursery. No doubt, very distinctive beard and croak! Watched agricultural contract laborers lift seedlings from the fields, bundle them in burlap, and toss them in tractor-pulled bins. Mt. McLoughlin looks like a petite Mr. Fuji. Watched contractors package seedlings in boxes for storage or shipping. They use a big paper cutter to trip roots to the same length. Dinner at Bella Union in Jacksonville, OR with Sandi, Dylan, and Chris Wood after we checked into the Magnolia Hotel. Fettuccine with mushrooms and Deschutes Brewing King Crispy Pale Ale. Servings: grains 4/4, vegetables+fruit 2/5, dairy+meat 1/4, nuts+beans 0/0.5 Breakfast: coffee, ocean roll (A local Bend delicacy. A bit like a cinnamon roll, but with cardamom instead of cinnamon.) Lunch: salami wrap, banana Dinner: salad, Fettuccine with mushrooms, beer
