Spent some time over the last twenty-four hours thinking about Faux Bat, particularly the value of Solo Flight.
One feature sends mail over port 443 (https), which helps when the user crosses network boundaries they don't control (with port 25 or 587 blocked).
What are the alternatives to Solo Flight?

- Run a mail server monopolizing port 443.
- Add an IP address to an existing server, and have the mail server listen on port 443 on that new IP address.
- Protocol (de)multiplex on port 443 with something like haproxy or sslh.

All of these need a non-trivial amount of configuration, and (excepting protocol multiplexing) additional recurring costs.
