Thu Feb 2 08:09:33 EST 2017 Slept from 10:30 to seven. Woke briefly around 4:30. Party sunny today, with a high of twenty-two. Work: - Finish DNS notes, and test NAPTR and SIP PTR with phones Some. Added to DNS notes, but spent more time on unrelated network troubleshooting. Mine this for zone file info: https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/3/html/Reference_Guide/s1-bind-zone.html Nice write-up about mtr: https://www.linode.com/docs/networking/diagnostics/diagnosing-network-issues-with-mtr Ten minute walk at lunch. Beautifully blue and sunny. But a biting wind. Gnome terminal allegedly faster than st: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=13548404https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=13548404 Hmm. In its favor, gnome-terminal has the Solarized color themes built-in. When I tried out gnome-terminal a few days ago (20170127.txt) I complained about its handling of bold/bright. That wasn't quite fair. I like: general "allow bold text" and colors Solarized dark with bold white, cursor white/darkorange, and highlight white/darkorange. This works reasonably well with my vim and tmux color schemes. Turning off cursor blinking is a must. I like it in vim because I can control the speed (set guicursor=a:blinkon1350-blinkoff350). http://askubuntu.com/questions/485477/what-is-the-time-between-blinks-of-the-terminal-cursor https://geoff.greer.fm/2016/08/26/gnome-terminal-cursor-blinking-saga/ A cursor-blink-time setting exists in gnome-terminal, but it doesn't seem to do anything. Also, Edit - Preferences - Shortcuts - UNCHECK Enable Shortcusts is a must. Maybe the Solarized background changed to #2e3436 and foreground to #d3d7cf? Home: - Draw No. - Drop off card for mom Done. Had a brief, cordial conversation. Video game where you control gnomes (and maybe birds and squirrels). Maybe to grow the best tree? This new Netflix autoplay preview "feature" in the Roku app is intolerable. I asked them to cancel my subscription because of it. Service should end on the 17th. It's annoying to watch Netflix squander their advantage. Moves like this are designed to make their experience more like TV, but they can't beat TV by imitating it. Bought gas on the way home from mom's. Waxing crescent moon tonight. Venus is big and bright. Breakfast: coffee, carrots, spinach, yogurt Lunch: cheeseburger with jalapenos and hot sauce, peanut butter milkshake Dinner: Reuben, fries
