Tue Apr 14 09:16:08 EDT 2015 Slept OK, but not great. Woke up once or twice. Sunny and moderate weather. Goals: Work: - Research best disk cache configuration for new VM's After a little reading, I'm still not confident that I understand how all the issues apply to our particular configuration, given all the layers involved. Our power infrastructure makes it unlikely that a write would be interrupted before being flushed to disk. Still.... http://www.virtualizationadmin.com/articles-tutorials/microsoft-hyper-v-articles/general/solutions-virtualizing-domain-controllers-part5.html "Whether or not disk write caching is automatically disabled for the physical volume depends on the virtualization software that you are running and on the server's hardware configuration. Things can become particularly interesting if a virtual domain controller is configured to use SCSI emulation mode. If the host server offers full support for SCSI Forced Unit Access (FUA) then you do not have to worry about buffered write operations at the host level. Only unbuffered data will be sent to the physical disk. If FUA is not fully supported though, then you may have to manually disable write caching at the host level." - Install OS for Exchange on vm Done. - Update vendor pricing Done. - Update unit rents Several done, but not all. Home: - Laundry Done. - Grocery shopping Done. A productive day, especially considering my new diet (breakfast: egg white, tomato, spinach; lunch: raw nuts, an apple; dinner: lean chicken or fish, green or orange vegetables). I was literally slightly weak with hunger by dinner time. Even now, a couple of hours after dinner, I'm a little hungry, although I no longer feel weak/tired. The surprising thing is that I had the willpower to do grocery shopping without buying _any_ sweet, junk food, cheese, etc. I may need to increase my caloric intake slightly. Maybe a snack at four o'clock. I'll see how I feel in a couple more days. I can't starve myself to point of making myself sick; I'll need to get lots of sleep to keep my immune system happy, especially with the stress at work. I should go to be early tonight....
